UPPER BASIN RESERVOIRS

FONTENELLE RESERVOIR
(GREEN RIVER)

Water Year 1993

Fontenelle Reservoir began water year 1993 with an
elevation of 1975.9 meters (6483.0 feet) with 226 million
cubic meters (183,000 acre-feet) of live storage (53 percent
of capacity). This low level of storage was the result of the
extremely dry conditions experienced in the Upper Green
River Basin in water year 1992 Inflow into FonteneUe was
only 47 percent of normal in water year 1992.

Precipitation and snowpack in water year 1993 was
moderately above normal. Because of the dry antecedent
soil and groundwater conditions in the Upper Green River
Basin, however. runoff was moderately below normal. April
through July runoff into Fontenelle Reservoir during water
year 1993 was 934 million cubic meters (757,000 acre-feet).

ACT\IAL RELEASES 1l1t13

IIWOII culle ....-
-

-............
314

2
I 1\
/ ./ ~1
'"
........ .
I--'

:tOO

a

200

12

,

,..

:,. ; ~ ., ~ .; .; ; ., .,..". ~o

This was 89 percent of the long-term average. The Upper
Green River Basin was the only drainage basin in the Upper
Colorado River Basin where runoff was below normal in
1993.

With near average inflows, Fontenelle easily filled in 1993.
Releases of up to 119 cubic meters per second (4,200 cubic
feet per second) were released in 1993. Peak inflow into
Fontenelle Reservoir was 222 cubic meters per second (7,840
cubic feet per second) on June 4, 1993. Approximately 321
million cubic meters (260,000 acre-feet) of water bypassed
the turbines in water year 1993.

FONn!NI!LLE RESERVOIR

Reservoir

Slorage Capacity
Normal Pool Elevation
Minimum Power Pool
Surface A1<a, full
Reservoir Length, full

426 minion cubic meters (345,000 acre-reet)
1982.9 mele..
