FLAMING GORGE RESERVOIR
(GREEN RIVER)

Water Year 1993

The elevation of Flaming Gorge Reservoir at the beginning
of water year 1993 was 1835.9 meters (6023.6 f~t) with 3,831
million cubic meters (3,106,000 acre-feet) of live storage (83
percent of capacity). At the end of the water year, the
elevation was 1838.8 meters (6033.2 feet). Live storage on
September 30, 1993, was 4,281 million cubic meters
(3,471,000 acre-feet), 93 percent of capacity.

Unregulated inflow into Flaming Gorge Reservoir for water
year 1993 was 1,838 million cubic meters (1,490,000
acre-feet), 90 percent of normal. Actual regulated inflow was
1,634 million cubic meters (1,325,000 acre-feet). The April
through July runoff was 1,275 million cubic meters (1,034,000
acre-feet) or 85 percent of the Ipng term average. With this
near average inflow, Flaming Gorge gained 450 million cubic
meters (365,000 acre-feet) of storage in water year 1993.

In 1993, Flaming Gorge was operated in accordance with the
Fmal Biological Opinion on the Operation of Flaming Gorge
(FBOFG), issued in November 1992.

ACTlJAL RELEASES 1993

IlIUJOII cu.c IIKnM
-

..-..... However, due to the unexpected high runoff from the
Yampa River, these releases were not maintained for the
entire four weeks so that flooding near Jensen,.Utah could
be m;nimi7ed. During this period, releases which were
jointly agreed upon by Reclamation, the Fish and Wildlife
Service, and Western Area Power Administration, were
made so that flows in the Green River near Jensen would
not exceed 566 cubic meters per second (20,000 cubic feet
per second). After completion of the spring runoff, flows
between 38.2 and 51.0 cubic meters per second (1,350 and
1,800 cubic feet per second) were maintained at the Green
River near Jensen, Utah. Under the terms of the FBOFG,
1993 met the flow requirements for the high flow year.

FlAMING GORGE RFSERVOIR

Reservoir

Storage Capacity
Normal Pool EleVation
Minimum Power Pool
Surface Area, full
Reservoir Length, full

4,61>1 million cubic meters (3,749,00) am-fect)
184Q.9 Meters (6040.0 Feet)
1789.4 Meters (587\.0 Feet)
17,DOS Hectare& (42,020 Ac,")
146 Kilometers (91 Miles)

PCJ'lIII'en1Jant

Number of Units
Total Capacity

3
108,000 KW

7
