HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN
THE REVIEW OF
ALTERNATIVES?

Your participation in this public review process is
invited at this time. PreliminaJy alternatives have been
formulated for review and comment prior to the EIS
team beginning work on the detailed analysis for the
Glen Canyon Dam Envh"onmental Impact Statement
(GCD-EIS). Your participation now is especially
important. You are assis.ting in shaping the eventual
draft GCD-EIS.

There are several ways you can participate. First, public
meetings will be held on April 1 in Salt Lake City, UT,
April 2 in Flagstaff, AZ, and April 4 in Phoenix, AZ.
The public meetings will provide opportunity for the
public to receive additional information and answers to
questions in an informal setting concerning the
alternatives, the EIS process, and current research
ongoing on the Colorado River in Grand Canyon.
There will be no formal oral presentations by the public.
Rather, written comments will be accepted, either at the
meeting or during the comment period to follow.

Second, even if you cannot attend a meeting, you will
have an opportunity to provide written comments. The

information provided in this newsletter probably will
be sufficient for your use in providing input whether
you attend a meeting or not. However, if you request
additional data, we will be happy to send it to you or
respond to questions in the event you are unable to
attend one of the meetings.

The opportunity for written comment continues
through Wednesday, May 1, 1991. Following the close
of the comment period, the EIS team and cooperating
agencies will analyze all suggestions and consider
adjustments to the alternatives. The results will be
shared through a future newsle,tter.

Your comments will make a difference. The
alternatives as they now exist were shaped in large part
by public input through the scoping process last year.
As you can see in other articles in this newsletter, there
was a direct linkage between the scoping process and
the alternatives formulation. Now you have an
opportunity to assist in refining the final list of
alternatives.

We are seeking your assistance now not on whether you
prefer a particular alternative over another but whether
the range of alternatives is sufficient to prepare the
Environmental Impact Statement.

-- -- - - - - - - --- --

Meeting dates, locations, and an address to obtain additional
information or to submit written comments are:

Apr 1, 1991 Salt Lake City, UT, 7 p.m., Hilton Hotel, 150 West
500 South

Apr 2, 1991 Flagstaff, AZ, 7 p.m., Little America Hotel, 2515 East
Butler Avenue

Apr4,1991 Phoenix, AZ, 7 p.m., YWCA Leadership
Development Center, 9440 North 25th Avenue

For additional information or to send comments write:

Colorado River Studies Office - UC 1512
Bureau of Reclamation
P.O, Box 11568
Salt Lake City, UT 84147

6
