o
C)
b"
l>'l
c.
QO

',. '

Exhibits "c" and "D". Figure I shows a double circuit, steel tower such

as will be constructed along the south shore of Lake Estes and from Estes

Power Plant to a point near the surge tank at the top of Estes Power Plant

Penstocks. figure 2 shows typical wood-type, H-frame overhead transmission

line structures such as are used on the existing Estes to Loveland trans-

mission line and similar to the type to be erected on the line from the

Estes surge tank to Marys Lake Power Plant and Estes surge tank to the east

portal of the Adams Tunnel.

I know there have been some fears expressed by Estes Park residents

that. the o~erhead lines we are now erecting are only a beginning, and that

~v.

ultimately transmission lines will interlace the whole of your beautiful

valley here. Let me assure you thBt such is not the easel Our power

studies show the Route A lines as represented in Exhibits C and D to be

completely adequate to distribute power generated in this Brea.

Let me say a word about the "hazard" connected with overhead lines,

since several have expressed fears in this respect. One reaSon Route A

was selected over Routes C. and D, and double circuit steel towers desig-

nated, was to eliminate hazards to persons enjoying the recreational facil-

ities at Lake Estes. Steel towers of the type shown in Figure I are de-

signed to suspend the lowest conductor not less than 48 feet above the

nearest point on the ground or water underneath. Provision will be made

so that persons will find it very difficult to climb the towers, and signs

will be posted to remind fishermen that caution should be e~ercised in

casting, although it is extremely doubtful that fishlines could come close

to the power conductors, considering their relative position to the waters

of Lake EsteS. It is of course difficult to compare the hazard factor of

7

"",,-

".'~' .
