This data base is to be used as a
productive tool to evaluate effects of individual water
development projects in the basin as they relate to
long-range planning, water use, and water needs.

August 1977--The Missouri River Basin Water Resources Plan,

which presented the Commission's basinwide comprehensive plan, called

for a hydrologic model of the basin capable of projecting effects of

alternative water development and management schemes throughout the

basin.

January 1978--The MRBC 1978 priorities Report rated the

hydrology study as the No. 1 priority special study for the basin in

fiscal year 1980. The study recommendation included development and

maintenance of a water-related data base and computer model to

evaluate impacts of alternative development and management schemes.

Assessment recommended that beginning in fiscal year 1980 the

Missouri River Basin Commission conduct a study to determine:

(1) historical and current ground and surface water uses and

availability in the Missouri River Basin and (2) implications of

alternative future water utilization schemes.

May 1978--The following resolution was unanimously adopted by

the Third Annual Missouri River Basin Governors' Conference on Water:

Whereas, The Governors at their Second Annual Missouri
River Basin Governors' Conference held in Omaha, Nebr.,
May 3-5, 1977, unanimously adopted a resolution petitioning
the Federal Government through the Missouri River Basin
Commission to develop within the several States a
cooperative water data system adequate for assessing the
current and future water uses within the basin; and

-8-

I
I
I

Whereas, The Missouri River Basin Commission has
