This line was
loaded near the limit of its steady state capacity, about 26,000 kw, to
relieve the severe power shortage in Arizona.
It is estimated that the total amount of unused energy after
May 31, 1941 will be 15,6:\:3,000,000 kwhr, 1,268,000,000 being
available in the current year of operation ending May 31, 1942,
and a diminishing quantity thereafter,
The general shortage of power for defense production through-
out the nation has made this power increasingly valuable. The
two generators installed for the use of the District at Boulder
power plant have sufficient capacity in excess of the District's pres-
ent requirements to permit immediate delivery of at least 160,000
kw at transmission voltage. Negotiations for the delivery of en-
ergy to a magnesium plant to be located near Las Vegas were begun
in May 1941, and it is anticipated that a large amount of unused
energy will be resold in the near future.
Pm'kcr POW6/' Plant
Construction of the Parker power plant was continued through-
out the year by forces of the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation and un
June 30,1941. the penstocks and the power house substructure had
been practically completed. Considerable major equipment for the
three units initially planned had been delivered, but none installed.
The first generating unit is expected to be ready fbr operation in
the summer of 1942. In order to supply increasing power demands
in Arizona and Imperial Valley of California, the Reclamation
Bureau revised the plans for the power plant to include the fourth
generating unit which will raise the installed capacity to 100,000
kw, and fully develop this site. Contracts have been made for this
additional equipment. The estimated cost of the complete four-
unit plant is about $11,000,000, of which the District's share will ue
about $5,000,000.
The following contracts have been executed by the United States
for sale of surplus power from this plant;

Cp.rltrul Arizona Light & Power Co. ____nm._........
SJlt Rivp.r Valley Water User...'
