Improper opera- <br />tion of the motor brakes at Iron )lountain was corrected. All <br />delivery pipes were unwatered and their interior coatinJ(s repaired <br />where sliRht breaks had been caused hy installation of salt-\-elocity <br />testinR equipment. The lifting nuts in the six discharJlc valves <br />at Eagle and Hayfield were found to be defective. and replacements <br />were furnished oy the manufacturers and installed by the District <br />in August 19-tO. Difficulties with discharge vah'es at Intake and <br />Gene are under discussion with the manufacturers. <br />One of the main power transformers at Hayfield was taken out <br />of service in )lay 19-10, following the disco\'ery of a defective <br />grounding connection between the core and frame which had re- <br />sulted in damage to the core. The spare transfonner for Eagle <br />)[ountain and Hayfield plants was placed in service and the dam- <br />aged transformer dismantled. The transformers at the other <br />plants were inspected and, with the cooperation of the manufac- <br />turer, steps were tll.ken to prevent similar trouble. "Iaterial for <br />extensh'e repairs to the Hayfield transformer has been ordered <br />lmd will be instnlled by the manufacturer ~l.s soon as received. <br />In June 1940 the pumping plants were closed to all \'isitors ex- <br />cept those havinJ{ passes issued by the Los Angeles office.
