.'

.

.

south side of the San Juan River or the San Juan-Chama transbasin

diversi"ln prnject or a combination of the latter 2 projects, depending

upon New Mexico's determinati0n as to where the water is to be used.

Wyoming's potential irrigation projects utilizing Colorado

River water are all within the natural hasin except for one small

transbasin diversion possibility. The problem there is to work out

individual projects and to look ahead for pro~able industrial uses of

water.

Arizona's p0ssibilities for usir€ its 50,000 acre-feet of
Colorado River water in th~ ~pper Basin have not yet been fully
investigated.
The general plan I have described has been discussed with
representatives of the Upper Basin States for some time and recently

several public meetings have been held with State and lecal interests of

Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and New Mexico where the plan was favorably

received. A joint meeti.ng of the Upper Colorado River Commission and

the Upper Basin States Committee just five days ago in this citJ'

unanimously approved the plan in principle. This group narred the

reservoirs ani the participating projects which the states desire to be

inclurled in the initial authorization. After considering the informal

comments of the individual states the next step is to complete the r~pcrt

for forwarding to the CDlmlissioner of Reclamation within the next 2 or

3 months. In compliance with the Flood Control Act of 1944, the parent

project report and the participating project reports, if approved by the

Commissio~er and the Secretary of the Interior, will be officially submitted

g

1612
