<br /> <br />n n - ~ n. <br />:.1" J .J.:., ~ <br /> <br />Group I: SoiZs of Warm Arid to Dry Semiar;'d Reaions <br />(YELLOW) <br /> <br />These soils are located within the lowest precipitation and eleva- <br />tion zones of the Basin. <br /> <br />They are in all states. but are most extensive in Arizona and New <br />Mexico. The group occupies 23.5 percent of the basin and is exceeded <br />in acreage only by Group VI. <br /> <br /> <br />L <br /> <br />_-~'.l:>....-~. <br />---...... - - <br />- - <br />~~ <br /> <br />Soils Group I - Irrigated cropland <br />Farmington. New Mexico <br /> <br />Mean annual precipitation ranges from 6 to 12 inches <br />free period is long, ranging from 147 to 178 days. <br />mainly between 4,500 and 6.500 feet and mean annual <br />between 48 and 540F. <br /> <br />and the frost- <br />Elevations are <br />temperatures <br /> <br />Grass and saltdesert shrub, along with southern and northern desert <br />shrub. are the dominant cover types. They occupy slopes that typi- <br />cally range from 0 to 15 percent. <br /> <br />There are eight soil mapping units in this group which have a high <br />proportion of deep soils. Alluvial and wind deposits are the chief <br />soil parent materials. Major Great Groups are: Torrifluvents. <br />Torriorthents. Torripsamments.
