<br />"~..;,-~ <br /> <br />."f;.~'f' <br /> <br />, <br />#" <br /> <br />..; t"\ ~_ <br />I" "J.' ~ Lo <br />U \. i4'U'...." , <br /> <br />S1lllllR8I'Y of Proposal. for Firmipg <br />the Federall'trdroelectric Plants on the Missouri River <br />, <br /> <br />Submission of Proposal <br />On January 29, 1962, fourteen power suppliers in Korth Dakota, <br /> <br />South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin submitted a <br />proposal to Secretary Udall, Depart.ment of the Interior, whereby the <br />steam plants of the fourteen suppliers would be used to firm the federal <br /> <br />hydro qs1;em on the Missouri River. <br /> <br />The proposed plan would lIlake it possible for the government <br />to increase, by 50%, the _ount of firm power sold to its preference <br /> <br />customers at their load pattern <br /> <br />that is, when the customers degire <br /> <br />the electric power. This would be accomplished with no additional <br /> <br />capital investment by the government. <br /> <br /> <br />Local Power Systems Making the Proposal <br /> <br /> <br />The fourteen power suppliers, making the firming o:ffer, operate <br /> <br /> <br />about 90% of the generation owned by the major electric systems in the <br /> <br />area. The power suppliers include 12 power companies, one electric power <br /> <br /> <br />cooperilt.ive, and a' public power district from Nebraska. Their names are <br /> <br />on an attached list. <br /> <br />Federal. llydro Plants Firmed <br />The offer covers :firming of the following government hydro <br /> <br />plants: Fort Peck, Garrison, Oahe, Big Bend, Fort Raadall, Gavins Point, <br />Canyon Ferry, and Yellow Tail. <br /> <br />Capability of llydro System <br />Available data supplied by the United States Corps of Engineers <br /> <br />and the Bureau of Recl_ation indicates that, upon completion, the eight <br /> <br /> <br />generating plants will have a combined firm pe~ capability of: <br />
