Bent ditch, utilized by
the'City of Lamar, washed out in its lower reaches necessitating the
cessation of further releases from John Martin. At this time 621.56
a.f. of Lamar's Fryingpan-Arkansas water remained in storage in John
Martin Reservoir. The operations leading up to this point in time
are summarized in the following tables:

TABLE 1

Pueblo Operations

reI vol a ,~,
~

1700*
--1QQ

200@

* The first 1648.58 a.f. released was from Lamar's carried over
project account.

Date/Time start

Date/Time stop

t
(days)

reI rate
(cfs)

6/20/90-1300 hrs
6/24 -2021 hrs

6/24/90-2021 hrs
6/29 -0139 hrs

200
35.83

4.285
4.22

TABLE 2

John Martin Operations

6/26
6/28
7/02

6/27
7/02
7/13

-2400 hrs
-0518
-0900

1.625
4.22
11.15

-0900
-0000
-0518

30.11
30 .11 *
30.11

97.05
252.03
666.13

1015.21

* passed through without regulation

During the ensueing two week period Lamar evaluated its options. It
was deterrrdned that reconstruction of the section of the Ft. Bent
ditch that would have perrrdtted Lamar to resume the operation was
infeasible in the immediate future. There was concern over the
potential loss of the water if left in John Martin Reservoir due to
the terms under which the use of the Reservoir as a regulating
device was granted and the potential ramifications to the Frying
Pan-Arkansas Project should waters native to the Colorado River
Basin be lost to uses outside of the Project boundary.
