DAMES 8 MOORE

Mr. Felix L. Sparks
June 17. 1977
Page 6

Special attention will be given to the pressure test data. Foundation

permeability will be analyzed and susceptibility of the foundation

materials to piping and other seepage hazards will be evaluated. The

effectiveness of grouting the foundation rock will be evaluated.

Detailed Analysis of Preliminary Dam Desi~n

The data concerning potential dam construction materials obtained by

the USER during field and laboratory investigations will be critically

reviewed. The preliminary dam design philosophy, criteria, parameters

and methods will be reviewed. The preliminary design cross-section will

be reviewed for optimum usage of available construction materials.

The seismicity of the area will be investigated to ensure that the

magnitude of seismic loading is compatible with the seismic potential

of the area.

Seepage Studies

Seepage studies of the dam/foundation unit performed by the USER will be

critically reviewed. Estimated quantity of seepage, potential for piping

and adequacy of the foundation to resist potential seepage forces will all

be evaluated. It is assumed that a limited amount of independent analysis

will be required and our program includes time and costs for such studies.

Foundation Treatment

The proposed. foundation treatment will be reviewed. Assumptions and

criteria used in designing the slurry trench will be evaluated.

Compatibility of slurry trench with foundation materials and effectiveness

in light of past performance at similar projects and present state of the art
