AV

.
the additional water which may be as eXpensive as constructing the

'new Towaoc Canal.

,

3. There are numerous turnouts to laterals. leading water to the irrigated

field in the Valley. This will introduce water regulation problems

tG downstream users. particularly the Towaoc area.

4. A storage reservoir may be essential to Towaoc to regulate the flows

to the Ute Indian fields so that adequate water delivery will be

..

assured particularly during the peak water use period in July. The

storage reservoir will increase initial construction costs and the
,

consequent 0 & M costs. The latter is an item of concern to the

Ute Indians.

The Towaoc Canal will be mucR easier to administer once constructed
'-.
since it will carry only water belonging to the Ute Indians. However. it may have

higher 0 & M costs to the Indians. But when 0 & M costs related to the

regulating reservoir associated with use of the Rocky Fo~d Ditch are

considered. the independent Towaoc Canal may cost less and provide more

administrative convenience. A survey of the new route has not been made.

Thus. the estimation of canal 0 & M costs is not possible at this time.

Conveyance losses have been estimated for two alternative stations

for measuring the water diversions to the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation

lands:

Alternative I - Water Measurement at McPhee Outlet

Alternative II Water Measurement within. Reservation Boundary at Towaoc

..Net irrigation requirements are estimated with an allowance for

leaching requirements and effective rainfall. Farm losses are estimated

.
on the basis of sprinkler irrigation systems. Net diversion requirements are

then. determined for the two

alternatives for measuring the water.

;"".
