000492

The tour will end at the Bub McGee farm looking at HYDROGEL

on grain sorghum. "We will also be using surge irrigation with

PAM on this field and have a Parshall flume with a recorder to

measure the runoff from this field, We can use this information

to determine the value of this new technology as compared to the

old way," Valliant said, Bub is also looking at some of the new

polyurethane trash screens where he is pumping water from his

irrigation ditch up to the demonstration site.

Several acres in the Arkansas River Valley are being lost

due to seepage or crop yields are being substantially reduced due

to shallow water tables or perched water tables caused by over-

irrigation. Colorado State University, the NRCS and several

other groups are continually looking for new technology, new

crops and new chemicals to help overcome these problems,

In combination with the tour, Paul Frank will be having a

field day at his farm located 1/2 mile west of the intersection

of County Road LL and Road 33. This demonstration will begin at

8:00 am with coffee and donuts. Paul will be showing the use of

a center pivot system using ditch water, He will be running the

pivot showing both drop and drag hoses on alfalfa.

Irrigators and other interested persons are invited to attend

this Irrigation Water Management tour and the Center pivot Field

Day to observe the effectiveness of this new technology. The

tour is being sponsored by Colorado State University Cooperative

Extension, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the

Northeast Prowers Soil Conservation District.
