<br /> <br />O~1558 <br /> <br />PROJECT SETTING <br /> <br />Trinidad Lake North Watershed is located three miles west of <br />Trinidad (pop. 9663), Las Animas County, Colorado. Trinidad is <br />located 86 miles south of Pueblo (pop. 101,686). The project area <br />includes all of Reilly, Burro, Sarcillo, and Wet Canyons. It <br />contains 111,167 acres (174 square miles) of drainage area and <br />empties into the Purgatoire River upstream of Trinidad Lake. <br />Purgatoire River is a tributary to the Arkansas River with its <br />confluence at Las Animas, Colorado. <br /> <br />TRINIDAD LAKE NORTH WATERSHED <br />LAND USE <br /> <br />PASTURE (1,2';) <br /> <br /> <br />WilDLIFE (6,0';) <br /> <br />RANGE (55,7';) <br /> <br />OTHER (25,6';) <br /> <br />The area is characterized by warm summers (90 degrees <br />Fahrenheit) and cold winters (-25 degrees Fahrenheit). <br />Precipitation in the watershed varies from 12-20 inches annually, <br />depending on the elevation, with the majority occurring in the <br />spring and summer. During the summer, high intensity localized <br />cloud bursts" occasionally produce from one to two inches of <br />rainfall in less than an hour. The growing season at Trinidad <br />(early-May to mid-October) averages 160 days. <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />
