Type I surveys are a coordinated,

comprehensive, interdepartmental planning effort in which the affected

States participate and are conducted under the authority of PL 89-80,

the Water Res0'lrces Planning Act. Type IV River Basin surveys are

conducted under the a>>thority of Section 6 of PL 566. They are coop-

erative surveys with the State of the water and related land resources

of a basin and the development potential of the basin.

Colorado is now concerned with two Type I surveys - ,he Missouri

Basin and the Upper Colorado Basin. The Missouri River Basin survey is

being conducted from a headquarters in Omaha and under the direct coor-

dination of the Missouri River Basin Inter-Agency Committee. The survey

is well under way and is currently scheduled for completion in fiscal

year 1970. Members of the Water Board staff as well as of the Depart-

ment of Agriculture River Basin Staff are working on the development

of information for the Missouri Basin survey. Most field work required

has been completed, and ,.it is anticipated that preliminary drafts of

the subbasdn report for the Platlte River subbasin will be under pre-

paration next year.
