Oul'U!~

.

.

yards of concrete have been placed in the dam, and the highest blocks are

360 feet above bedrock at this time. Work will continue through the win-

ter months in the underground powerplant, excavation of the stilling basin

area, and placement of the steel penstocks in the tunnels leading to the

powerplant.

On the Silt Project the contractor has substantially completed the

embankment for Rifle Gap Dam. Clearing work is underway and closure of

the outlet works is scheduled before the end of November. The contractor

is expected to concentrate on resloping the relocated highway cuts and

repairing sections of roadway damaged by slides. The bituminous surfac-

ing of the highway will be performed next spring.

-/; Construction work has been finished for Silt Pump Canal, Dry Elk

Valley Lateral, and the Grass Valley Canal Rehabilitation. The contractor

for Davie Ditch is expected to complete earthlining operations early in

the spring. All concrete work has been finished and pumping equipment

installed in the Silt Pumping Plant. Testing of this facility is expected

to be cumpleted during December.

On October 4, Johnson and Blattner Construction Company of Minnesota

was awarded the contract to build Silver Jack Dam, Bostwick Park Project.

Trees and other vegetation have been stripped from the abutments, and

Cimarron Creek has been rechanneled along the left abutment. The con-

tractor suspended operations for the winter on November 19.

The water supply situation, with particular reference to storage

levels attained in the major storage unit reservoirs, is of considerable

interest and concern to all of the people of the Upper Basin States. A

brief summary of those circumstances is appropriate.

2
