'.' oon 2J

.

.

I'
,

REPORT BY TIlE BUREAU OF RECLAMATION, REGION 4,
TO TIlE COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD

November 21, 1966

Construction progress at the various Region 4 projects of interest

to this Board has been satisfactory since your September meeting.

At Glen Canyon Dam, work under the completion contract is almost

finished, with only minor construction and cleanup yet to be completed.

Other current construction activity involves installation of the left

diversion tunnel plug and spillway elbow and erection of the Visitor Cen-

ter. Installation of the tunnel plug on which the contractor is working

24 hours a day is about 98 percent complete. The Visitor Center, to

serve both the Bureau of Reclamation and the National Park Service, is

scheduled for completion next spring. We expect that it will be open

to the public some time next summer. A self-guided tour through Glen

Canyon Dam and powerplant will be provided from the new Visitor Center.

Recent work at Blue Mesa Dam has been mostly in the powerhouse. The

completion contractor is concentrating on installation of the turbines

and plans to have the plant operable early in 1967. Approximately 80

percent of the work has been completed on the switcbyard on the canyon

rim between the powerhouse and U.S. Highway 50. Overall completion of

the contract is about 60 percent.

At Morrow Point Dam, placement of concrete on the dam was suspended

for the winter months on October 28. Over 237,500 cubic yards have been

placed during the past construction season. A total of 280,500 cubic
