The management plan calls
for removal of highly saline shallow ground waters through
an accelerated leaching program during the period of time
when excess flqws are available in the Colorado River.
Colorado - By the end of 1980, all 208 plans for the
Colorado River Basin in Colorado were conditionally approved
by the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission and certi-
fied by the Governor to EPA. EPA had approved the plans except
for the Colorado West and Northwest Colorado Councils of Govern-

ment. The Northwest Colorado COG plan is still under litigation.

Nevada - Reevaluation of future treatment facilities

contributing effluent to Las Vegas Wash was required under

a "consent decree" issued by a local Federal District

Court in March 1979, as the result of a lawsuit brought by
the Cities of Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. The decree
requires a study directed toward establishing water quality
standards in Las Vegas Wash and Lake Mead and a follow-up
study to identify wastewater treatment facilities that will
be needed to meet those standards. The Clark County Depart-
ment of Comprehensive Planning completed a 208 plan in
February, 1980. It has been approved by the State of Nevada
and is being reviewed by EPA. The study area encompasses
all of Clark County.

-28-
