<br />l\:) <br />~ <br />CJ1 <br />..... <br /> <br />National Pollution Discharge <br />Elimination System Permits <br /> <br />All states have adopted the Forum policy regarding <br /> <br />implementation of standards through the NPDES permit <br /> <br />program. During the period of this report, the status <br /> <br />of implementation was as follows: <br /> <br />Arizona - One municipal and one domestic permit were <br />reissued, and one industrial permit was issued. Six appli- <br />cations for new or reissued permits are pending. All <br /> <br />permits comply with the Forum NPDES policy. <br />California - During the period, the state, which has <br />the authority to issue permits, issued no NPDES permits nor <br /> <br />were any applications made for issuance or reissuance of <br /> <br />permits. <br />In implementing the objectives of the Colorado River <br />water quality control plan for the East Colorado River <br />Basin, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board- <br />Colorado River Basin Region has included in its discharge <br /> <br />permit requirements a prohibition of brine back-wash from <br />water softeners into ground waters which are in hydraulic <br /> <br />continuity with the Colorado River system. <br />Colorado - During FY 1980, 65 NPDES permits were <br /> <br />issued with salinity requirements. Twenty-five were muni- <br /> <br />cipal and the remainder were industrial and non-municipal <br /> <br /> <br />permits. The permits have been issued in compliance with <br /> <br /> <br />the regulations requiring no discharge of salt wherever <br /> <br />practicable. <br /> <br />-23- <br />
