<br />, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />, '." <br /> <br />The AMWG has 25 members, and a list of participants is attached hereto, Mr, Chuck Lile is <br />Colorado's representative to the AMWG, The AMWG held its first meeting in September 1997 <br />and its second meeting on January 15-16, 1998, and is expected to meet twice a year. <br /> <br />The TWG is comprised of technical representatives from interests represented on the AMWG <br />and is responsible for translating AMWG's goals and policies into resource management <br />objectives, I am Colorado's representative to the TWG, The TWG has been holding two-day <br />meetings once a month since September, 1997 and will probably continue with two-day meetings <br />for the next 6-12 months, After that the work load will probably diminish somewhat and <br />meetings will be less frequent, <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />The GCMRC was established by the Secretary to support the AMWG and to manage and <br />coordinate adaptive management research programs and data collection as part of these <br />programs, The GCMRC has a permanent staff of 6-1 0 and is located in Flagstaff, Arizona. The <br />annual budget for the GCMRC, including operation of the center and the research, monitoring <br />and data collection is about $7,5 million. <br /> <br />Adaptive Management Work Group Meeting. September. 1997 <br /> <br />The first meeting of the AMWG was basically an organizational meeting, The AMWG heard <br />reports from the Secretary's designee and the Bureau of Reclamation on the role and <br />responsibilities of the AMWG in the adaptive management program for the Grand Canyon and <br />the operation of Glen Canyon Dam, The GCMRC reported on its research, monitoring and data <br />collection programs, and budget issues, The Technical Work Group was also formally <br />established at that time. <br /> <br />r; <br />\.:J <br /> <br />Adaptive ManalZement Work Group Meetinl!:. Januarv. 1998 <br /> <br />At the January meeting the AMWG continued with certain administrative issues and began <br />addressing technical and scientific issues, <br /> <br />The administrative issues included: <br />a) Adoption of Operating Procedures for the AMWG <br />b) Review ofFY 1997-1998 Report to Congress: Operations of Glen Canyon Dam pursuant <br />to the 1992 Grand Canyon Protection Act <br />c) Review of the "State of Natural and Cultural Resources in the Colorado River <br />Ecosystem" report <br />d) Budget issues relating to the Adaptive Management Program <br /> <br />If you would like a copy ofany of these documents I will be glad to provide you with one. <br /> <br />The scientific and technical issues dealt with the operation of Glen Canyon Dam pursuant to the <br />recommendations contained in the Final EIS and the Record of Decision on the Operation of <br />Glen Canyon Dam, These issues included: <br /> <br />l <br />
