Alternative scenarios and
their effectiveness to control the salinity differential can be quickly
evaluated. This spreadsheet utilizes LOTUS version 3.2 on an IBM PC/AT class
~icrocomputer.

Description:

There are 11 main data sets (sets of information), 7 correspond to inflows
along the Colorado River between Imperial Dam and NIB, one is an outflow (NIB),
one is an accounting of flows bypassed to the Santa Clara Slough, one is the
flow arriving at Imperial Dam, and one is the salinity differential. Flow data
is entered in units of thousands of acre feet (KAF) and salinity data in parts
per million (P/M) for each month (parts per million is assumed to be the same
as Milligrams per Liter at the concentrations under consideration here).

This spreadsheet performs a flow, salinity, and salt load budget between
Imperial Dam and NIB. Salt load in thousands of tons (KTONS) is calculated as
KAT times P/N times 0.0013584 (KTONS = KAF * P/N * 0.0013584). Salinity is
calculated as KTONS divided by KAF divided by 0.0013584 (P/M = KTONS/KAF/
0.0013584). The ar~ual salinity value is the flow weighted salinity value
calculated as annual KTONS divided by annual KAF divided by 0.0013584 (Annual
P/M = ~~ual KTONSjAnnual KAF/0.00I3584).

These two salinity calculations yield a flow weighted salinity and are
equivalent to the summation of flow times salinity divided by summation of
flow. A description of each data set is presented below.

Wellton-Mohawk Draina~e flows:

This data set represents the flow and salinity of the pumped drainage from the
Wellton-Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage District (WMI&DD). Flow values are
entered in the TOTAL RAP column and salinity values are entered in the P/M
column. If zeros are entered in the TO RIVER KAF column, the spreadsheet
assumes that all flows are bypassed and appear in the BYPASSED KAF column. If
data is entered into the TO RIVER KAF column, the value entered is subtracted
from the BYPASSED KAF column and is considered 8S part of the inflow between
