Because of the large acreage
withdrawn and the small developed site, this withdrawal would not
survive the withdrawal process (scheduled for 1988), but is an integral
part of the Wild and Scenic River Study area. Therefore the area was
overlapped by the proposed withdrawal.

Two additIonal withdrawals associated with the Wild and ScenIc RIver
study (ElevenmIle Canyon Recreation Area, PLO 1659, 6-17-1958 and
ElevenmIle Canyon Recreation Area Addition, PLO 2783, 10-10-1962), were
not Included in the proposed wIthdrawal. These withdrawals will
survive the withdrawal review process.

(111) THE TOTAL ACREAGE, FEDERAL OR OTHERWISE, THAT WOULD BE ADDED TO THE
EXISTING WITHDRAWAL, IF THE NEW APPLICATION IS ALLOWED.

None.

(7) THE PUBLIC PURPOSE OR STATlITORY PROGRAM FOR WHICH THE LANDS WOULD BE WITHDRAWN.
IF THE PURPOSE OR PROGRAM FOR WHICH THE LANDS WOULD BE WITHDRAWN IS CLASSIFIED
FOR NATIONAL SECURITY REASONS, A STATEMENT TO THAT EFFECT SHALL BE INCLUDED;
BUT, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, A GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE USE TO WHICH THE LANDS
WOULD BE DEVOTED, IF THE REQUESTED WITHDRAWAL IS ALLOWED, SHOULD BE INCLUDED. IN
THE CASE OF APPLICATIONS THAT ARE NOT CLASSIFIED FOR NATIONAL SECURITY REASONS,
AN ANALYSIS FOR THE HANNER IN WHICH THE LANDS AS WELL AS THEIR NATURAL RESOURCES
AND RESOURCE V ALUES WOULD BE USED TO IMPLEMENT THE PURPOSE OR PROGRAM SHALL BE
PROVIDED.

The segment of the South Platte river from Elevenmile Canyon ReservoIr to
Cheesman ReservoIr has been determIned eligible for a suitabilIty
evaluation for designatIon as a Wild and Scenic RIver. PendIng the
suItabilIty study and recommendation, the study area will be protected to
preserve its characteristics which make it eligible. The study area is
about 23 mIles long and extends 1/4 mIle on each side of the river segment.
Badger Creek, a tributary of the Arkansas River east of Salida, and the
Cimarron RIver on the Cimarron National Grasslands were also inventorIed,
but dId not meet the eligibility criterIa. These three stream segments
were identified In the National RIver Inventory of the Heritage
ConservatIon and Recreation Service, as dIrected by PresIdent Carter In
1979.
