CHAPTER II

DESCRIPTION OF ALTERNATIVES

Relocation of Property

Price and Stubb Ditch Imorovements.--No major relocation would be required
for improvement of the Price and Stubb Ditches. Precautions would be taken
during construction to minimize disturbance of existing utilities and
watercourses. If necessary, bridges as well as road crossings would be
replaced; however, roadways across the canal would remain passable during
the construction period. Any fences removed for construction purposes
would be restored.

East End Government Hiohline Canal Crass-Drainaae Facilities.--Relocation
of a portion of a county road north of I-70 for construction of the
detention ditch would no longer be required.

Estimated Costs

Price and Stubb Ditch Imorovements.--Construction costs for the
plan are estimated at $10,070,000 based on October 1990 prices.
estimated OM&R shows that an annual savings of $14,100 per year
result from the canal improvements. The annual cost per ton of

East End Government Hiahline Canal Cross-Drainaae.--Deleting construction
of these facilities would reduce the costs of the FEIS recommended plan by
about $4,200,000.

No-Action Alternative

Price and stubb Ditch Improvements

The no-action alternative, developed by inventorying current conditions and
projecting anticipated changes, would consist of not making modifications
to the Price and Stubb Ditches for salinity control. The present condition
of the irrigation systems would be maintained by the water user
organizations. Salt loading from these two conveyances would continue at
or near the present levels.

East End Government Hiahline Canal Cross-Drainaae

The facilities in the FEIS recommended plan would be constructed. The
impacts of these facilities were discussed in the FEIS.

System Combination Alternative (Nan-Viable)

Plan Concepts and Estimated Accomplishments

This alternative only addresses the improvement alternatives for the Price
and Stubb Ditches and does not address any alternatives for the East End
Government Highline Canal cross-drainage facilities.
