Lundberg, Project lllinager, Missouri-Souris Projects
Office, Bureau of Reclamation, Bismarck', North Dakota, presented a
progress report on the Garrison Diversion Unit.

He discussed in detail significant changes in the original time-
table for the construction of the Garrison Diversion Unit and changes
that have been made in the plan for development of the Uni.t.

In this connection the Bureau of Reclamation is attempting to
explore every possible means to provide the most modern, up-to-date
irrigation system possible within the limitations imposed by the
authorizing act and the repayment contracts. Studies to date ShOl,
conclusively that a substantial use of sprinkler irrigation is adapt-
able to Garrison Diversion Unit, and this could well be the solution
to providing an up-to-date water delivery system for the Garrison
Diversion Unit. Special studies are nOl, in progress for the Oakes
area of the unit, which will indicate I,hether or not a modern sprinkler
. irrigation system can be provided for that area by compacting the
surface area without decreasing the authorized acreage or increasing
the. authorized expenditure. It is anticipated that the results
obtained from the study on the Oakes area can be projected to a large
extent to other areas of the Garrison Diversion Unit.

16

..

~f;~i..'~~:~

!~Hgi
~

.

::.::..:.:....:
. -.;.,
~:i.:::'.;,,>;.:,:;
:;.:-:r..:::::.:.
~'" . ...1
'({~?;Y"
J:',<S:I
~:~:"~ikF:
.."......"..'1
:'>\~:..~;~~
~:\)~~~~~t
II

~,.,,:1t,,

{tif\~~-.:i:

:~~~}\\~~(

..

.

:Oi'-:""" "<"1

[0~,t5':

',j",'>'/:I

...

.. .....,;...;
. ...:,:.>..,. ~:;
~~:~::,;~_.:~.:~./ I

.

,..:~ -,.

,":' ;:~'.
.,
::::"

....1

.;-'..
