<br />" <br /> <br />.' <br /> <br />PREFACE <br /> <br />Prompted by the need for a comprehensive State Water plan and the <br /> <br />impetus provided by the Federal Water Resources Planning Act of 1965 <br /> <br />(public Law 89-80), the Colorado Water Conservation Board in 1970 took <br /> <br />the initial steps in launching the investigations that will lead to and include <br /> <br />the preparation of the statewide plan, Beginning in fiscal year 1970, Federal <br /> <br />funds were appropriated for the Bureau of Reclamation to initiate the <br /> <br />investigations, <br /> <br />In:tial cff0rtS culminated ~n the preparatio:1 of the "Plan of study for <br /> <br />the Colorado Water plan published in March 1971. The objective of the <br /> <br />Plan of Study was to establish an orderly process for conducting the overall <br /> <br />investigations and accomplishing the objectives, <br /> <br />The entire investigation effort was divided into the following phases: <br /> <br />Apprisal of Present Conditions, Legal and Institutional Considerations, and <br /> <br />plan Formulation. <br /> <br />Phase I, Appraisal of Present Conditions, included the preparation <br /> <br />of this Interim Report which summarizes the current (1970) status of water <br /> <br />and related land resource developments. Included also in the report are <br /> <br />current data on the availability of natural resources and an inventory of <br /> <br />data ancl publications conce111ing or relevant to the developmcnt of the <br /> <br />State's \I"lter and related land rcsourccs. <br /> <br />0387 <br /> <br />'1 <br />
