<br />OC2186 <br /> <br />- 1 - <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />SECTION 1 <br /> <br />THE WATERSHED WORK PLAN <br /> <br />FISHERS PEAK - CARBON ARROYOS WATERSHED <br /> <br />Las Animas County, Colorado <br /> <br />JUJ\e 1960 <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF PLAN <br /> <br />The proposed project for watershed protection and flood prevention <br />for Fishers Peak - Carbon Arroyos Watershed is sponsored by the <br />Purgatoire Soil Conservation District and the City of Trinidad, Colorado, <br />Technical assistance in preparing the watershed work plan was provided <br />by the Soil Conservation Service, V. S, Department of Agriculture, <br />and the Colorado Water Conservation Board. This plan includes a <br />canbination of land treatment and structural measures that will contribute <br />directly to soil and water conservation, watershed protection, and <br />reduction of floodwater, sediment, and erosion damages. No irrigation <br />developments or other water management structural measures are involved, <br /> <br />The area covered by the watershed work plan consists or 2.30 <br />square miles (1,470 acres) in Las Animas County, Colorado, Approximately <br />52 per cent of the watershed is wooded grassland. 28 per cent grass- <br />land, and 20 per cent urban and miscellaneous useage. <br /> <br />-' <br /> <br />The principal watershed problem is floodwater, sediment, and <br />erosion damage to commercial buildings, streets, bridges, railroads, <br />and agricultural land along Fishers Peak and Carbon Arroyos in and <br />adjacent to the City of Trinidad. Rangelands above the City are <br />being damaged by gully and channel cutting, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />
