O?
,~
00
C'J

,~

West Divide Creek is the principal of these streaos. It

drains the largest and highest mountain watershed, ane flows past

the largest body of terrace land, lying between it and Mamm Creek to

the west, on its course to the Colorado River. The West Divide Creek

country is therefore more highly developed than the lane along the

other creeks and 601, of the irrigated land south of the Colorado

River in this valley is on or irrigated frcm this creek.

Although the country is broken and rolling the general slope

is strongly towarc the Colorado River and the lowest terrace or bench

remains in form close to the river, but evidence of the former higher

terraces is not so clear.

Facilities

The project lands located on West Divide Creek are served

by better than average county roads, nost of which are now surfaced

with at least same gravel. These lead to the town of Silt, which

:1

is 12 miles from the ranches at the heae of the valley. With a

population of several hunered, Silt is the project business head-

quarters, located on U. S. Highway 24. This is the principal east

\1
,

and west thoroughfare through Colorado and is rapidly being improved

into a nodern highway. Rifle, a good business town of 12rO is 10

miles west of Silt, and Glenwoed Springs, the county seat with 2500

people is 18 miles east of Silt en the highway. Grand Junction

~I

'(15,000) the metropolis of Western Colorado is 70 miles west of Silt.

,"

6

"
