I can assure the
"entleman the Air Force Academy is not going to be short of water.
This proje~t was designed primarily, I wish to state to my good friend
from Florida, for irrIgation, and to provid!, ,supplemental. water ~or
irrigation in the Arkansas Valley. MUIllClpal needs WIll reqUIre
about 20000 acre-feet of the 69,200 acre-feet made available by the
. '
proJect. . ., .
The primary purpose of tillS project IS to prOVIde supplemcntal
irrio-ation water for the Arkansas Valley. This was concClved of and
designed long before t.he Air Force Academy was ever considered
for our area or any other area, I might say to the gentleman. It is
not a project designed to bring water to the Air Force Academy as
such.
Mr. HALEY. Let me say to the gcntlcman from Colorado, yon say
this is not for that purpose. Yet the statement of the Department
on page 7 here is that municipal growth is being retarded because
of short water supplics and the community appe'Hs to h,nc ex-
hausted its capacity for self-help.
Mr. CHENOWETH. As I said to the gentleman, there are some 20,000
acre-feet of municipal water provided for in this project, hut the
primary objective and purpose of the project. is to provide supple-
mental water for irrigatioR as the witnesses will inform the committee.
The gent.leman has heard t.he evidence in other years ,mel I am sure
he is familiar with t.hat phase of the projed. It is essentially a water
pro~ec~, a~ irrigation project, a reclama.tion project to prOVIde water
for IrrIgatIOn purposes.
Mr. HALEY. Mr. Palmer, what is the bonded indcbtedness of the
community out t.here!
Mr. PALMER. I do ROt have t.hat. We will get it.
(The information referred to follows:)

Oomparison, bonds outstanding to auessed valuation-, A.rkaua8 ValZev cities,
}I'ryinupan--ArkanBas project, Colorado

(Thousand9 of doliEmj

Asses511d Bonds outst.o.ndJng, Jan. 1, 1960 Pf'rcent, Percent,
total ~enero.l
CIty va.llle, bonds or ohUga.tlon
1000 General Special School assessed bonds of
obllgo..
