15

,-

Lower Barr Lake Canals includes land under the Burlington, O'Brien,
Brighton Lateral, Speer, Beebee Seep, and Neres Canals.

'~

Water diverted from surface supplies

The data for water diverted from surface supplies include water diverted
at the headgate of each canal for direct irrigation plus estimates of stored
water released from reservoirs, not water diverted from the stream to stor-
age. Consequently, the figures do not include water diverted to reservoirs
which was lost through seepage and evaporation before it was released from
the reservoir. Table 3 shows the total annual average diversion for direct
irrigation from the South Platte River, plus the amount released from
storage used for irrigation, as compiled by the Bureau of Ileclamation for
the IS-year period of 1947 through 1961. The "9-year range" in the table
shows the minimum and maximum surface water diverted during 9 of the 15
years, omitting the three low years and the three high years. In other
words, the omount diverted fell within the given range duri,ng 60% of the
years studied.

Table 3.
