In IIDst cases, =ers have established <br />priorities based on doing the llOSt needed items first. 'Ihese <br />priori ties may change from year to year. <br /> <br />Financing <br /> <br />Cost-Sharir;j; for irrigation and drainage works of irrprovenent is <br />available rough the follONing sources: <br /> <br />1. Agricultural Conservation Program. <br /> <br />2. Great Plains Conservation Program. <br /> <br />3. Public Law 566, Small watershed Program. <br /> <br />4. Resource Conservation and Developnent Projects. <br /> <br />5. Public Law 984, Srnall projects Act. <br /> <br />6. The Four Corners Regional Ccmnission. <br /> <br />In the Agricultural Conservation Program (ACP) the local contact is <br />the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) <br />office. Applications are made at these offices for cost-sharing <br />assistance on individual jobs. Assistance varies from 50 to 80 <br />percent of the cost of the job. Each county receives a yearly <br />allotrrent. <br /> <br />This program operates under national, state and county procedures. <br />Irrigation carrpanies and drainage districts can receive cost-sharing <br />under "pooling" agreerrents. Individual fanners can se=e cost- <br />sharing for projects on their farms. ACP also uses "Special Projects". <br />under these, irrigation carrpanies and drainage districts can receive <br />cost-sharing for major irrprovements that may cost many thousands of <br />dollars. All details of ACP cost-sharing and ACP "Special Projects" <br />can be se=ed fran the ASCS county office manager. <br /> <br />In the Great Plains Conservation Program landa.vners enter into <br />contracts with the Federal Governrrent to carry out a carrplete conser- <br />vation program. These contracts may be as short as three years or <br />as long as 10 years. In these contracts the Federal Government <br />will cost-share some of the needed practices.
