Implementation <br />of the USDA program is scheduled for initiation in 1985. <br /> <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />Palo Verde Irrigation District Unit <br /> <br />A preli~inary,analysiS indicates that return flows from the PVID <br />(Palo Verde Irrigation District) annually contribute approximately 152,000 <br />tons of salt annually to the Colorado River system. FY 1985 funding will <br />complete Phase I work in developing a hydro-salinity analysis. Thestudy <br />will provide information for Reclamation, SCS, and the PVIO to determine <br />sal i nity control program components and the need for further studi es. If <br />these studi es i ndi cate a vi ab 1 e project, Phase II of the i nvestigat ions <br />will be pursued. <br /> <br />Lower Gunnison 'Basin, North Fork Area <br /> <br />Plan formulation investigations are continuing on the North Fork area. <br />The Regional Dtrector'5 report and draft envi ronmental statement are <br />scheduled for completion in August 1989. <br /> <br />San Juan River <br /> <br />The study area is located from the headwaters of the river in south central <br />Colorado, through northern New Mexico, to its mouth at Lake Powell, in <br />southeastern Utah. Preliminary reconnaissance of the river .shows an average <br />annual flow of a,047,OOO acre-feet at Bl'uff, Utah, carrying a salt load of <br />1,165,000 tons. Investigations are proposed to begin in FY 1986 and .be <br />campl eted in FY1989. . . <br /> <br />Sinbad Valley Unit (BLM) <br /> <br />The Sinbad Valley Salinity Report was completed in April 1983. The report <br />identifies two alternatives for this salinity control unit in Western <br />Colorado. The Assistant Secretary of .the Interior for Land and Water <br />Resources has decided that if the Sinbad Valley Unit is to be implemented, <br />BLM will do it. <br /> <br />Presently, BLM i~ operating a streamflow and water quality monitoring <br />station, along with a recording rain gage in the Salt Creek drainage. <br />Authorization for' future design work. on this project is included in the <br />Forum's proposed legislation. <br /> <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br />'/ <br />U: <br />--~ <br />
