Big Sandy River Unit: On June 21, 1982, Reclamation

o signed an agreement with the State of Wyoming outlining
~
o responsibilities of the State and the Bureau to complete the

.;:..

planning studies jointly. The State has contributed

$300,000 to accelerate the study. A joint planning report is

scheduled to go to the Wyoming State legislature in January
1983. In meetings held with the state, a recommended plan
was selected which provided for well collection of saline

water for partial replacement of exchange water from

Fontenelle Reservoir and use at a proposed chemical ferti-

lizer plant near Rock Springs.

Lower Gunnison Basin Unit: The proposed planning

report for the unit has been completed and is under review.

Data collection on Stage II is underway.

McElmo Creek and Uinta Basin units: The recommended

alternatives have been selected. The recommended plans

include lining 30.6 miles of the Montezuma Valley Irrigation

Company system in 1"lcElmo Creek. About 61.5 miles of canals

and laterals are proposed for rehabilitation under the Uinta

Basin Unit study.
The Palo Verde Irrigation District: The leaching test
was completed on 320 acres of fallow farmland. The

cooperative test between Reclamation, USGS and Palo Verde

Irrigation District indicated that ground water flushing was

not a viable means of long term salinity control. A U.S.

Geological Survey open file report is being prepared.

-13-

.L

.ii, :;.:

Jt.~s}l
