e.v.
tw.
ct;l,
U\
-TrackinG Habitat Imoacts
A wetland and wildlife habitat tracking system (WET) is IJeing
used in the Lower Gunnison Salinity Unit. WET tracks general salinity
contract information, wildlife haIJitat practices; wetland information,
and HEP related data for all contracts.
General contract information includes total 'contracted acres, the
date the contract is approved, total cost share funds and cost share
dollars for wildlife habitat improvement practices. specific wildlife
habitat practices (i.e. shallow water developments, shelterlJelts,
etc.), size of the practices, dates planned and applied are entered
for each contract. Wetland information entered in WET includes
wetland type, source of water supporting the wetland (artificial VS
natural), acres and values (CWEP/WUV's). HEPinformation tracked
includes cover type acres, HSI and HUV values for existing, planned
and applied conditions. WET is being used to record and evaluate the
qualitative and quantitative changes to wetland and wildlife habitat
as the salinity program progresses. These data are cumulatively
summarized, evaluated and annually reported in this document - the
Monitoring And Evaluation Report for the Lower Gunnison, Colorado
Unit.

Non-Salinitv Funded Reolacement
Additional state and privately funded programs will be used for
salinity habitat replacement when the SCS is the primary agency
providing technical assistance and evaluating the project through the
HEP process. An example is the Cooperative Wildlife Habitat ' '
Enhancement Program (CWHEP) funded through the Colorado Division o~
Wildlife and administered by the Montrose and Delta Soil Conservation
Districts. Presently, 25 projects are planned through CWHEP
obligating approximately $38000 for upland, riparian and wetland
wildlife habitat developments in the Lower Gunnison Unit. These
projects are not included in this report as salinity habitat
replacement as, they have not yet been evaluated through the HEP
process.

22

.....
{J.::"}~

1
I
,I

<;~~~ .
