'" v_... ,_ ~ <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />APPLICANTS' STATEMENT ON <br />BETTER-ADAPTED ISSUES <br /> <br />As required by Commission regulations, the Uncompahgre Valley Water <br />Users Association and the Montrose Partners (herein referred to as the <br />Applicants) offer the following statements regarding why they believe <br />this Competing App1 ication for License is better adapted than others the <br /> <br />Appl ications submitted by the West Slope Hydro Partners (FERC Project <br /> <br /> <br />Nos. B022-8026) and Energenics, Inc. (FERC Project Nos. 8034-8039) <br /> <br /> <br />(herein referred to as the applicants or competing applicants) for <br /> <br />Commission consideration. For convenience and clarity, the statements <br /> <br />offered have been separated into three major categor i es, i nc 1 ud i ng <br /> <br />technical issues, economic 'issues, 'and environmental issues. <br /> <br />Technical issues <br /> <br />1. This application constitutes a better use of the water resources <br /> <br />of the region in that it will result in the production of over three <br /> <br />times the power and energy claimed in previous applications. If <br />developed by the Applicants, the AB Latera' Hydropower Project will <br />produce over 45,000 kilowatts of power and over 277,400,000 kilowatt <br /> <br />hours of ener9Y, whereas the previous applicants have claimed less than <br /> <br />13,400 <ilowatts and 83,000,000 kilowatt-hours. <br />The UVWUA disputes the competing applicants claim of 83,000,000. <br /> <br />Th i s es t i mate is based upon an assumed operat i on of 12 month s per year, <br /> <br />which does not allow sufficient time for annual maintenance of the canal <br /> <br />system and the Gunnison Tunnel. The UVWUA bel ieves that the most <br /> <br />optimistic estimate of energy production for projects located on the <br /> <br />IS-7 <br />
