<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />5.2 <br /> <br />SITE INSPECTIONS <br /> <br />5.2,1 GENERAL <br /> <br />On August 14, 1990, a reconnaissance of the Hourglass Reservoir site was made by AI Gipson <br />and Garet Denise of WCC. The purpose of the visit was to obtain data to per/onn a feasibility <br />level study for rehabilitating the reservoir. Also present during the reconnaissance were Lyman <br />Flook of McCall. Ellingson and Morrill, Inc. and Sam Boone and Nancy Munns from the City of <br />Greeley. The weather during the reconnaissance was partly cloudy with moderate temperatures. <br />There had been no slgnnicant rain prior to the reconnaissance, Mr, Gipson also visited Ihe site <br />prior to the October 1989 field investigation. <br /> <br />5.2,2 EMBANKMENT <br /> <br />5,2,2,1 Description <br /> <br />The embankment has a crest length of about 2400 feet with a maximum height of about 45 <br />feet and crest wldlh of about 10 feet. A significant portion of the crest length between <br />aboul Station 8 + 00 and Station 25 + 00 consists of a low dike with a heighl of about 5 to <br />10 feet. <br /> <br />5.2,2.2 Crest <br /> <br />On the crest, there were no indication of settlements. misalignments, or cracking. There <br />were a few small rodent holes which did not appear to affect the integrity of the structure. <br /> <br />5.2,2,3 Upstream Face <br /> <br />No evidences of longitudinal or transverse cracking were observed. No depressions, bulges, <br />or settlements were noted, There were some wave-cut benches which were about a foot <br />wide on the right side of the main embankment 10 the right of the area covered with riprap, <br />These benches should nol affect the overall integrity of the structure, The riprap appeared <br />to be adequate and no evidences of stone deterioration were found, Grass cover on the <br />dike portion of the embankmenl was somewhat sparse.
