<br />(.1 <br />CO <br />....~ <br /> <br />Lower Rifle Creek Valley suffers considerable damage from creek <br /> <br />flooding. Flood flo"KS causing the damage, however, are a result of <br /> <br />summer cloudburst storms on the watershed of Government Creek, tributar.y <br /> <br />to Rifle Creek below the Rifle Gap Regervoir site and. are, therefore, <br /> <br />not controllable by the reservoir. <br /> <br />Provision has been made for dead storage capacity of 1,000 acre- <br /> <br />feet in the Rifle Gap Reservoir for the accumulation of silt. Navigation <br /> <br />is not a problem to be considered anywhere on the .upper Colorado or its <br /> <br />tributaries. Lands wi thin and surrounding the reservoir basin, except <br /> <br />for a few tracts which have been withdrawn from ent~J for reservoir <br /> <br />development purposes, are in private ownership. The watershed lapds are <br /> <br />largely under the supervision of the Forest Service and the ~ivision of <br /> <br />Grazing. No Indian lands are located in the project area. <br />
