The Water Quality Control Division has <br />initiated a groundwater monitoring program in the Northern High Plains area of <br />Eastern Colorado. The Division plans to expand this study in 1990 into other <br /> <br />/; <br />.1; <br />~. <br /> <br />!> <br />::~ <br /> <br />portions of Northern Colorado and the San Luis Valley, The laborat~ry <br /> <br /> <br />analysis of the collected samples includes routine water quality parameters, <br /> <br />( <br /> <br />~l:" <br /> <br />metals, herbicides and pesticides. <br /> <br /> <br />The North Front Range Water Quality Planning Association, together with the <br />Weld County Health Department, have sampled three hundred wells in the <br />Larimer/Weld region during 1989. Data analysis were made for twelve basic <br /> <br />Ii'~ <br />~:-, <br />.:' <br />,".;.' <br /> <br />water quality parameters including total dissolved solids and nitrate. <br /> <br />~1 <br /> <br />Results of these enhanced groundwater quality efforts should be available for <br /> <br />r'.,.~ <br />ii' <br />?'::~ <br />'"".; <br /> <br />the next update of the assessment report. <br /> <br />~~':5 <br />9,!J. <br />;~~~ <br /> <br />High Quality Waters Protection <br /> <br />~~~ <br />',<);" <br />:.,;;! <br /> <br />A concern which EPA noted in its approval of the April 1988 Colorado Nonpoint <br /> <br />~g <br /> <br />Assessment Report was the lack of information in regard to maintenance of high <br /> <br /> <br />quality waters. through nonpoint source control. The emphasis of Colorado's <br /> <br />~}1 <br />;"f1 <br />?:W <br /> <br />nonpoint source program is to ameliorate or remediate existing nonpoint source <br /> <br />problems which have been identified in the assessment report.
