Introduction to the 1989 Assessment Report In April of 1988 the Colorado Nonpoint Assessment Report was submitted to Region VIII EPA, following a public hearing and adoption by the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission. The adoption of the report by the Commission completed a year of work by the Colorado Nonpoint Source Task Force to assess nonpoint source water quality impacts in Colorado. The report was approved by . EPA in November, 1988. In the one and one-half years since the report was produced, some new nonpoint' source information has come to the attention of the Water Quality Control Division and' the Task Force. This information, together with clarifying additions and corrections, comprise the 1989 version of the Colorado Nonpoint Assessment Report. The basis for submitting information, together with the methodology for assessing the severity of the identified problems remains the same as that used in the 1988 report. Chapters I and II of the report explain the require- ments of Section 319 of the Clean Water Act and the methodology used in Colorado for producing the report. The 1989 Colorado Nonpoint Assessment Report consists of. two parts. First, an addendum is found immediately following this introduction. ' The addendum describes only new segments which were not included in the 1988 report. Following the addendum is the text of the 1988 report with corrections and changes to reflect 1989 knowledge of previously identified nonpoint sources in Colorado. No changes have been made to the charts, graphs or maps contained in the 1988 report, however significant changes have been underlined in the text of the report. -2-
