The following con-
cerning geologic conditions is submitted for your use in compiling
your final environmental statement:

The description of both the surficial and bedrock geology is very
limited in the draft environmental statement. However, it appears
that any environmental problems that may result from geologic condi-
tions would be recognizable from pre-construction investigations and
from experience with the already operational Blue Mesa and Morrow
Point dams upstream from the proposed Crystal dam. A description of
the environmental impacts of the Blue Mesa and Morrow Point dams and
how the Crystal dam might add to the impacts perhaps ought to be included
in the final environmental statement. The value of the mineral resources
that will become inaccessible as a result of both the construction of the
Crystal dam and the Curecanti Unit should also be presented.

- y ~.~ 0A'--/

Acting Direc:::~7

26C'S
