LANDSCAPE PRESERVATION <br /> <br />a. General.- The contractor shall exercise care to <br />preserve the natural landscape and shall conduct his <br />construction operations so as to prevent any <br />unnecessary destruction, scarring, or defacing of the <br />natural surroundings in the vicinity of the work. <br />Except where clearing is required for permanent <br />works, for approved construction roads and tor <br />excavation operations, all trees, native shrubbery, <br />and vegetation shall be preserved and shall be <br />protected from damage which may be caused by the <br />contractor's construction operations and <br />equipment. Movement of crews and equipment <br /> <br />within the right.ot-way and over routes provided for <br />access to the work shall be performed in a manner <br />to prevent damage to grazing land, crops, or <br />property. <br /> <br />No special reseeding or replanting will be required <br />under these specifications; however, on completion <br />of the work and in addition to the requirements of <br />Paragraph 3, all work areas shall be smoothed and <br />graded in a manner to conform to the natural <br />appearance of the landscape. Where unnecessary <br />destruction, scarring, damage, or defacing may <br />occur as a result of the contractor's operations the <br />same shall be repaired, replanted, reseeded, or <br />otherwise corrected at the contractor's expense. <br /> <br />b. Construction roads.-The location, alinement <br />and grade of construction roads shall be subject to <br />approval of the contracting officer. <br /> <br />c. Contractor's campsite.- The contractor's camp. <br />shop. office, and yard area shall be located and <br />arranged in a manner to preserve trees and <br />vegetation to the maximum practicable extent. On <br />abandonment all camp. storage, and construction <br />buildings, induding concrete footings and slabs, and <br />all construction materials and debris shall be <br />removed from the site. The camp area shall be left <br />in a neat and natural appearing condition. <br /> <br />d. Borrow areas and quarry sites.-Borrow pits and <br />quarry sites shall be so excavated that water will not <br />collect and stand therein. Before being abandoned, <br />the sides of borrow pits and quarry sites shall be <br />brought to stable sLopes with slope intersections <br />rounded and shaped to provide a natural <br />appearance. All rubbish, contractor's equipment and <br />structures shall be removed from the site. Waste <br />piles shall be leveled and trimmed to regular lines <br />and shaped to provide a neat appearance. <br /> <br />e. Blasting precautions.-In addition to the <br />requirements of Paragraph 60, the contractor shall <br />adopt precautions when using explosives which will <br />prevent scattering of rocks, stumps, or other debris <br />outside the work area. <br /> <br />I. Costs,- The cost of all work required by this <br />paragraph shall be included in the price bid in the <br />schedule for other items of work. <br /> <br />39_ PRESERVATION OF TREES <br /> <br />a. Preservation.-AII trees and shrubbery which are <br />not specifically required to be cleared or removed <br />for construction purposes shall be preserved and <br /> <br />20 <br />
