<br />LA. <br /> <br />FWS and UDWR developed an updated report on Green River floodplain <br />landowners which was available December 1995, The report includes <br />maps and aerial photos with landowners superimposed. and lists of <br />landowners with acreage. names. addresses, phone numbers, etc" to <br />further refine priorities and begin dialogue with the floodplain <br />landowners, <br /> <br />Gunnison River <br /> <br />There are approximately 774 acres of potential floodplain habitat <br />between RM 50 and RM 75, Mitchell (1995) identified approximately <br />40 ponds along the river in this area, The most floodable lands and <br />the ponds closest to the river will be targeted for easement <br />agreements, <br /> <br />Colorado River <br /> <br />There are an estimated 3.588 acres of potential floodplain habitat <br />between Westwater and Rifle (RM 127-240), Also, Mitchell (1995) <br />identified 253 ponds between Rifle and State Line, The most <br />floodable lands and the ponds closest to the river will be targeted <br />for easement agreements, <br /> <br />VI. Study Methods/Approach <br /> <br />Strateqy: <br /> <br />The Land Acquisition Coordinator is working directly with landowners <br />and coordinating with appropriate agencies to implement habitat <br />enhancement and protection, The coordinator moved from Vernal to <br />Grand Junction in June 1997, and continues to work the Vernal/Jensen <br />area while intensifying efforts in the Grand Junction and Delta <br />areas, <br /> <br />The coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the <br />acquisition process. from making the initial contacts with <br />landowners to final habitat restoration and protection. The <br />coordinator is also assisting with implementing the Habitat <br />Restoration Program public involvement plan for the Green, Colorado, <br />and Gunnison rivers, <br /> <br />The Land Acqusition Coordinator is contacting owners of the most <br />floodable lands (based on the 1993 High Flow Damage Assessment <br /> <br />10 <br />
