Preliminary to the bid <br />call on construction where environmen- <br />tal statements AfO required. the Bureau <br />obtains comments from interested gOY. <br />ernmental and private organizations <br />and conducts an environnuHllal review. <br />Following the environmental review <br />the findings are distributed 10 interested <br />federal agencies as well as slale and <br />local organizations llnd the public. The <br />results of this exchanMe of information <br />are used in preparation of a draft <br />environmental statement which is filed <br />with the Council on Environmental <br />Quality and circulated to interested <br />organizations. In Fiscal Year 1972 <br />environmental statmnents were drafted <br />and circulated for review on China <br /> <br />plants needed more complete study. <br />Twelve groups were organized into the <br />Southwest Energy Study. Thnse'groups <br />will investigate various aspeds bf the <br />dtwelopment such as the Ol;wd for I)Ower <br />and coal resuurces .and their Jlos.sihle <br />impacts upon air, W ijJer ,1 biota. and <br />recreation within the entire l}pPBr and <br />Lower Colorado Region arell'. <br />~,', <br /> <br />~ <br />."-(....1. <br />,.' <br /> <br />Meadows Dam and Reservoir and on <br />Huntington Canyon Generating Station, <br />a privately-owned thermal powerplant <br />under construction for which cooling <br />water is to be purchased from the <br />Buroau of Reclamation. <br /> <br />Realizing that the public must be pro- <br />vided timely information on major <br />plans and programs, the Bureau held <br />public hearings in order to obtain the <br />views of interested parties on the China <br />Meadows Dam and Reservoir.
