Most of the recently stOCKed <br />fish came from the two national fish <br />hatcheries at Jones Hole and HotchKiss <br />that were df~veloped vdth Colorado <br />River Storagtl Project Act funds. <br /> <br />One national wildlife n:fu~w. Seed- <br /> <br />skadee National Wildlife Refuge in <br />Wyoming. and three waterfowl areas <br />under State administration are being <br />developed in connection with the <br />Colorado River Storage Project. The <br />Browns Park Waterfowl Management <br />Area headquarters in the vicinity uf the <br />Utah-Colorado state 1i1H~ has been com- <br />pleted. A $110.000 construction con- <br />tract was awarded to develop 120 acres <br />of pond.marsh habitat in addition to 450 <br />acres of land adjoining an upstream <br />water unit. Resident and migratory <br />game bird populations maKe consistent <br />use of the area. It also is increasing in <br />public popularity 8S a fishing and hunt- <br />ing site. <br /> <br />A study in the nearly complete Miller <br />Mesa Waterfowl Area just south of the <br />Colorado-New Mexico stale line <br />indicates that birds from agricultural <br />and other resting areas in the San Juan <br />Valley are using the sile with increasing <br />frequency. <br /> <br />At the DHsert Lake Waterfowl Manage- <br />ment Area in eastern Utah. the historic <br />Desert Lake Dike was rehabilitated and <br />five additional areas below the existing <br />impoundment were diked. <br /> <br />Design data were completed for <br />rehabilitation of seven small private <br /> <br />irrigation impoundnwl1ts in the head. <br />waters of the Lowry Creek and Seely <br />Creek drainages in the Emery County <br />Project, Utah. Stabilization of these <br />existing reservoirs to create trout fishing <br />laKes will improve management and <br />public use possibilities. <br /> <br />Final segments of th{! joint fishery inves- <br />tigations of Lake Powell by the Arizona <br />and Utah Fish and Game Departments <br />and of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir by <br />the Utah and Wyoming departmentl> <br />were completed. <br /> <br />The fifth segment of the study of the <br />Curecanti Unit WIIS completed by the <br />Colorado Division of Wildlife. Principal <br />game fish spedes within the Blue Mesa <br />and Morrow Point Reservoirs include <br />rainbow trout, brown trout, kokanell <br />and cono salmon. Management of the <br />last two speciel> is diwctly lied to pro- <br />duction of fish from nearby Roaring <br />Judy Hatchery on the Lake ForK of the <br />Gunnison RiVer. <br /> <br />The first segment of the fishery study <br />of Heron Rell6t\'oir, San Juan-Chama <br />Project, was comphlted by the New <br />Mexico Department of Game find Fish. <br />This study will be useful in developing <br />appropriate fishery managomfJnt plans <br />for the initial years of opfualion. <br /> <br /> <br />21 <br />
