196:i

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Ladies and Gentleman:

In 1993 The Fort Lyon Canal delivered 35 runs of water with diversion on
the Main Canal of 234,531 acre feet which included about 32,950 acre feet of
Project water, 45,974 acre feet of Reservoir water and 3,466 acre feet of
Great Plains water from John Martin Reservoir.

Due to high moisture conditions when the Winter Storage season ended
March 15 of this year, many of our Stockholders could not use their water. A
request was made to Tommy Thompson of the Southeastern Colorado Water
Conservancy: District for an option of extending the Winter Storage Program
for two weeks in the spring. In order to change the Winter Storage Program
all participants in the Winter Storage Program must agree on this two week
extension. Although you may irrigate or store water in the optionai two week
extension, some canals could not agree because they needed their water
irrigate onions and since the option to irrigate must be done under the Winter
Water Storage percentages, they felt they couid not receive enough river flow
to irrigate.

This year,we are asking for $9.00 per share operating expenses, com-
pared to $7.50 per share last year. Last year due to a reduction in our labor
force and ot~er savings we had $128,766.00 or $1.37 per share in the bank
at the end of :the year, which we returned to the Stockholders as a reduction
in the 1993 ~ssessments. If you take the $7.50 assessment plus our $1.37
per share in the bank, our operating budget for 1993 was $8.87. Our present
requested $9.00 assessment is .13 cents per share higher than last year.

I wish to thank the members of the Board of Directors, all Employees, and
the Stockhol~ers for their cooperation and assistance during the year.
1

Respectfully submitted,

Paul Springer
President

6
