<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />the "western Interstate Water Conference" was sponsored here in <br /> <br />Las vegas by utah state University, the University of Nevada and <br /> <br />the university of california. Numerous invitations were issued <br /> <br />to persons in the western states having a responsibility for or <br /> <br />an interest in water resource development. The meeting was quite <br /> <br />well attended and one of the resolutions adopted at that con- <br />I <br />ference requested that the governors of the western states <br /> <br />establish a task force to work with the Council of state Govern- <br /> <br />..-4 <br />('oJ <br />....-I <br />.... <br /> <br />ments to consider the formation of a permanent regional water <br /> <br />commission. <br /> <br />In response to this resolution the western Governors <br /> <br />did appoint representatives from their respective states. Sub- <br /> <br />sequently this task force met at portland, Oregon, and the <br /> <br />organization now known as the Western states Water council was <br /> <br />on its way to being formed. The task force was divided into <br /> <br />committees and the necessary drafting of purposes and principles <br /> <br />began. some interim meetings of the committees took place and <br /> <br />in June of 1965 the task group met again in portland, oregon, in <br /> <br />connection with the Western Governors Conference being held there. <br /> <br />The action of the Western Governors Conference, in creating the <br /> <br />Water Co~cil,was the result of the recommendation made by that <br /> <br />task force. <br /> <br />Following the action of the western Governors, the <br /> <br />Western states Water council was formally organized at a meeting <br /> <br />called for that purpose at stateline, Nevada, on August 3, 1965. <br /> <br />Rules of organization were adopted and the purpose of the Council <br /> <br />-3- <br />
