The major portion of funds appropri- <br />ated under this category is allotted to the Colorado Game and Fish Department. How- <br />ever, the State Parks and Recreation Board, a comparatively new state agency, is <br />gradually taking a more active part in the planning and the construction of public <br />recreational facilities. The program for the State Parks and Recreation Board for <br />the fiscal year 1960-61 will be greatly increased over the previous years in confor- <br />mance with the long-range plan for a State Park System for Colorado. The Department <br />has been designated as the official board licensing agency to administer the require- <br />ments of the Federal Boating Act of 1958. The Department will continue to operate <br />the facilities at Cherry Creek D2ll1 and to expend $40,000 for a Marina at Cherry Creek <br />State Recreation Area. An ap'oropriation of $100,000 is available for lands for state <br />parks in conformance with long-range plans. <br /> <br />The Colorado Game and Fish Department was appropriated $576,550 for capital <br />outlay, supervision and operation and maintenance of approximately 22 reservoirs and <br />game management areas wi thin the Missouri River Basin. Considerable attention is <br />being given to improvement of the warm water fishing in reservoirs in .the plains <br />areas" <br /> <br />Public Health. The Department of Sanitation under the Department of Public <br />Health conducts contamination investigations of underground and surface water in the <br />State. Special studies are now being made of the underground water in the vicinity <br />of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal to determine the degree and extent of the contamination. <br />Stream pollution studies and aid to municipalities in solving their sanitation prob- <br />lems are continuing. The State will expend $38,000 for the above purposes and the <br />Federal Government $29,000 in F. Y. 1961. <br /> <br />Planning and Policy Formulation. Funds are appropriated to the Department of <br />Natural Resources and the Colorado Water Conservation Board for the promotion of con- <br />servation, development and utilization of the water resources of the State. Technical <br />and administration assistance is provided to Soil Conservation Districts, Conservancy <br />Districts and others in obtaining P. L. 566 projects and other worthy water resource's <br />projects. Contribution of ff25,000 is being made to the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation <br />for investigations of the Hardin site on the South Platte River as an alternate to the <br />Narrows site. ' <br /> <br />Sunnnary. There is presented below a tabulation of the Fiscal Year appropri- <br />ations for the development of water and associated land resources.
