Project Summary:

Fifteen related studies have been conducted to provide data to be used in the
Biological Opinion on the operation of the Aspinall Unit. In addition, many other
studies have been, or are being conducted in various parts of the Upper Colorado
River Basin thai will be useful to the Biological Opinion Process,

This scope of work is intended to consolidate the information currently being
collected throughout the Gunnison and Colorado rivers that is directed toward the
Aspinall Biological Opinion, It will make flow recommendations to operate the
Aspinall Unit in a way that will benefit the endangered fishes of the Colorado River.

IV, Study Schedule: Behind Schedule, Draft Final Report in March 1999

V, Relationship to RlPRAP: Colorado River Action Plan: Gunnison River:
l.A, Initially identifY year-round flows needed for recovery; and V,A, Conduct
research to acquire life history information and enhance scientific techniques required
to complete recovery actions,

Vl. Accomplishment of FY 98 Tasks and DeIiverables, Discussion of Initial Findings and
Shortcomings:

Work has continued on the Synthesis Report, but it is behind schedule, Most efforts
have gone to completing reports by the individual researchers that need to be
completed before the Synthesis Report can be completed, Draft reports that will form
important components of the synthesis report are now in various stages of review, An
important report describing the hydrology and geomorphology of the Gunnison River
has been submitted to the Biology Committee for review, Data presented in that

54-1
