.; ~

.

.

OolC,~ 1

Land classification, agricultural economy, and water requirement studies are

in progress on five representative farms in the Upper Gunnison Project area to deter-

mine feasibility of developing new lands and new farm units. This in turn will determine

the scope of the feasibility studies to be undertaken.

On the GRAND MESA PROJECT, we have completed land classification field

work and are now getting into water exchange studies and some of the other involved

water supply problems connected with this investigation. The proposed feasibi lity

report is scheduled for completion in F. Y. 1968.

Preparation of the project lands, drainage, and water supply appendifes for

the YELLOW JACKET PROJECT are in progress.

We are revising our project plans for the YELLOW JACKET AND JUNIPER

PROJECTS to obtain what we feel are more attractive developments. We have elim-

inated the long, costly canal from North Fork of the White River into the Thornburgh

Reservoir on Milk Creek. The Yellow Jacket Project would now consist of Lost Park,

Ripple Creek, and Sweetbriar or Rio Blanco Dams and Reservoirs in the White River

drainage and Thornburgh Reservoir on Milk Creek. Instead of serving all of Axial

Basin lands from Thornburgh Reservoir, however, the plan now would serve about

5,000 acres on lower Milk Creek. An importation from Marapos Creek would augment

the notural flows storable in Thornburgh Reservoir. The balance of the Axial Basin

lands would be served by direct connected pump from the proposed Juniper Reservoir.

/ This proposed change in plan for the Yellow Jacket Project has the approval of

the local Yellow Jacket Conservancy District officials, and we have discussed it several

6
