<br /> <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br /> <br />W <br />.:.J1 <br />l\J <br />~ <br /> <br />of <br /> <br />COLORADO RIVER BOARD OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />in Support of the <br />1984 Review, Water Quality Standards for Salinity, <br /> <br />Colorado River System <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the salinity of the Colorado River is of great con- <br />cern to the nearly thirteen million people in California who rely <br />in full or in part on water from the river and to those who farm <br />over 650,000 acres of irrigated lands! and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, water quality standards for salinity, including <br />numeric criteria and a plan of implementation, were established by <br />the seven-state Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum in <br />1975, adopted by the seven Basin states, and approved by the <br />Environmental Protection Agency as a basinwide approach to <br />controlling salinity in the Colorado River! and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 303 of the Clean Water Act of 1977 requires <br />that the water quality standards be reviewed from time to time, but <br />at least once during each 3-year period! and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 303 of the Clean Water Act, <br />reviews of the Colorado River water quality standards for salinity <br />were conducted in 1978 and 1981, wherein it was found that the 1975 <br />numeric criteria were still appropriate and wherein the plan of <br />implementation was reviewed and modified to accommodate changes! <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed Colorado River Salinity Control Forum's <br />1984 review of the water quality standards for salinity recommends <br />that no changes be made in the 1975 numeric criteria but that the <br />plan of implementation be modified to reflect changes since 1981! <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there is no reason to believe that the numeric <br />criteria will be exceeded during the next 3-year review period! <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Colorado River Board <br />of California fully supports the proposed 1984 Review, Water <br />Quality Standards for Salinity, Colorado River System. <br /> <br />unanimously adopted June 13, 1984 <br /> <br />20 <br />
